Freeman Auction House Set for High-Rise Vertical Extension at 1810 Chestnut Street in Rittenhouse Square, Center City

The 23rd place on Philly YIMBY’s December 2021 Development Countdown goes to the 25-story, 312-foot-tall residential high-rise proposed at 1810 Chestnut Street in Rittenhouse Square, Center City. Designed by Cecil Baker + Partners, the project consists of a 19-story vertical addition atop the existing six-story Samuel T. Freeman & Co. Auction House, built in 1923. The vertical addition will house 19 apartments, many of which will be full-floor and duplex units. The renovated historic building will hold several stories of retail, tenant amenities, and automated underground parking for around ten cars. Though our recent site visit revealed no signs of ongoing work, it may begin at any time as a partial demolition and construction permit was issued in November 2020.

Concrete Work Nearly Finished at The Laurel Rittenhouse in Rittenhouse Square, Center City

Concrete work has been largely completed at The Laurel Rittenhouse, a luxury residential tower under construction at 1911 Walnut Street just to the north of Rittenhouse Square Park in Rittenhouse Square, Center City. Designed by Solomon Cordwell Buenz and developed by the Southern Land Company, with the Harman Group as the structural engineer and the Hunter Roberts Construction Group as the contractor, the skyscraper rises to an impressive height of 599 feet and 48 stories (with two additional mechanical floors). The building will house 185 rental units along with 60 condominiums.

Excavation Nearly Complete at 1620 Sansom Street in Rittenhouse Square, Center City

The excavation work is heavily underway and nearly complete at 1620 Sansom Street in Rittenhouse Square, Center City, three blocks to the south of Liberty Place. The building will stand 340 feet and 28 stories above ground. The tower is designed by Solomon Cordwell Buenz and developed by the Southern Land Company, with the Hunter Roberts Construction Group, a trio that has also collaborated on the The Laurel Rittenhouse under construction nearby. The building will hold a total of 306 residential units, along with commercial space on the ground floor.

Philadelphia YIMBY Observes Views from the Top of The Laurel Rittenhouse in Rittenhouse Square, Center City

Nearly a month ago, The Laurel Rittenhouse at 1911 Walnut Street in Rittenhouse Square, Center City, celebrated its topping out with a commemorative event. Designed by Solomon Cornwell Buenz and developed by Southern Land Company, with the Harman Group as the structural engineer, the tower rises 48 stories tall and 599 feet, with additional two floors of mechanical space The parapet that will soon be constructed will reach 593 feet. The building will house 185 rental apartments and 60 luxury condominium units in the upper portion. Two weeks ago, Philadelphia YIMBY has announced the topping-out of The Laurel Rittenhouse at 1911 Walnut Street in Rittenhouse Square, Center City. Designed by Solomon Cordwell Buenz and developed by the Southern Land Company, with the Harman Group as the structural engineer and the Hunter Roberts Construction Group as the contractor, the building now stands 599 feet and 48 stories tall, making it the ninth-tallest skyscraper in Philadelphia and the tallest residential building in Center City. The all-residential building (the tallest of the kind on the city) will offer 185 rental units and 64 luxury condominiums. Today we share some new photos from the topping-out ceremony.
