New Renderings Reveal Design Updates at 33 North 22nd Street, Center City West

Last month, YIMBY presented a thorough overview of 33 North 22nd Street, a 328-foot-tall residential high-rise proposed in Center City West by PMC Property Group. The 29-story, 341-unit tower will replace the 32,616-square-foot Trader Joe’s parking lot south of John F. Kennedy Boulevard, whch sits just to the northwest of the curved Murano condominium. The design by Solomon Cordwell Buenz a unique avant-garde style to the area unlike any other in the city. A recent design update revealed in the recent Civic Design Review filing shows certain updates, such as a lower parapet and extended porcelain panels at the base.

AC Hotel Awaits Construction at 230 North 13th Street in Center City

The Convention Center area to the north and east of City Hall has long been a notable hotspot for hotels, with Marriott being one of the key hospitality operators. The hospitality chain is planning another addition to the area. The AC Hotel, part of the AC Mattiott Hotel brand, would stand at 230 North 13th Street, across from the Vine Street Expressway, rising 181 feet and 15 stories. Baywood Hotels is the project developer and Bergmann Asssociates is the designer. The base of the high-rise would incorporate the historic Big Brothers Big Sisters of America building currently at the site.

The Durst Organization Selected for Penn’s Landing Redevelopment in Center City

On Wednesday, after a lengthy review process, the New York City-based Durst Organization has been selected to head the Penn’s Landing redevelopment on the Delaware River waterfront in Center City. Durst’s master plan consists of an expanded Penn’s Landing park as well as new waterfront park space and several high-rise buildings, the tallest of which appears to reach around 700 feet. The plan is expected to bring 3.6 million square feet of floor space, much of which would be designated for 1,834 residential units. The development will leave a dramatic impact both on the riverfront and on the city skyline.

Blue Ivy Hotel to Rise at 122 South 11th Street in Market East, Center City

The Market East neighborhood is notable for its large number of hotels, and another one will soon join their ranks. At 122 South 11th Street, the Estia Group is proposing the Blue Ivy Hotel, which would stand exactly 200 feet and contain 86 rooms. The building, designed by DAS architects, will sit across the street from Jefferson University Hospital Emergency at 111 South 11th Street.

Jefferson Center’s Renovation Wrapping Up at 1101 Market Street in Market East

When 417-foot-tall, 32-story office tower at 1101 Market Street went up in Market East in 1984, it left a dramatic impact on the skyline, becoming one of Center City’s tallest buildings east of City Hall. The high-rise, developed by The Girard Estate and designed by BLT Architects, was once called One Reading Center, yet it is better known by its more recent name: Aramark Tower. In 2018, Aramark moved out of the building and relocated to the it new headquarters at 2400 Market Street. However, 1101 Market Street’s large office floors and sweeping all-direction views made it easy to attract a new anchor tenant, and Jefferson Health has now moved in, leasing 14 floors, renaming the building Jefferson Center, and installing its logo on the building pinnacle.
