Philadelphia YIMBY Reveals Skyline Massings of Two Cathedral Square at 227 North 18th Street in Logan Square, Center City

YIMBY recently published the long-awaited reveal of the plans for Two Cathedral Square at 227 North 18th Street in Logan Square, Center City. The new building that will join the north side of the Philadelphia skyline as part of the Cathedral Square development. Developed by EQT Exeter and the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, the tower will soon rise to a height of 470 feet and will feature a curvy, angled parapet, standing 34 stories above ground. The building was designed by Solomon Cordwell Buenz, which has also designed Philadelphia buildings such as The Murano, The Laurel Rittenhouse, and 33 North 22nd Street. Permits Issued for 61-Unit Mixed-Use Building at 36-38 South 2nd Street in Old City

Permits have been issued for the construction of a seven-story mixed-use development at 36-39 South 2nd Street in the Old City section of Center City. Designed by CANNOdesign, the structure will hold 51,623 square feet of interior space and will offer 61 residential units as well as commercial space on the ground floor. A roof deck will be situated at the top. Tester Construction is the general contractor. Construction costs are estimated at $10.5 million.

Updated plans have recently been released for Two Cathedral Square, a 470-foot-tall, 34-story mixed-use commercial and residential tower planned at 227 North 18th Street in Logan Square. Designed by Solomon Cordwell Buenz and developed by EQT Exeter, with Studio Bryan Hanes handling landscape design, the 700,000-square-foot-plus building is the largest component of Cathedral Square, a redevelopment master plan for the block-sized archdiocesan campus centered on the iconic Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul. Philadelphia YIMBY Observes Multiple New Lighting Schemes at One Liberty Place in Center City

In recent weeks, new nighttime displays have been lighting up the Philadelphia skyline. The iconic One Liberty Place skyscraper, located at 1650 Market Street in Center City, is the site of one of these new schemes, where new lights now decorate the crown. Developed by Rouse and Associates and designed by Helmut Jahn of Murphy/Jahn, the 61-story tower was completed in 1987 and stands 945 feet tall to the tip of its spire. Today Philadelphia YIMBY observes the most recent displays atop the skyscraper, after The Lighting Practice has finished revamping the decorative lighting.

Permits Issued for Scaled-Back Tower at 204 South 12th Street in Washington Square West, Center City

Permits have been issued for a scaled-back high-rise proposed at 204 South 12th Street in Washington Square West, Center City. Designed by Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, with Bower Lewis Thrower Architects (aka BLT Architects or BLTa) as the architect of record, and developed by Midwood Investments and Development, the new tower will rise 32 stories tall and feature 378 residential units, as well as 96 parking spaces and 130 bicycle slots. In total, the building will hold 401,870 square feet of space. A commercial component will be located at the ground floor. Construction costs are estimated at $111,729,721.

Concrete Work Nearly Finished at The Laurel Rittenhouse in Rittenhouse Square, Center City

Concrete work has been largely completed at The Laurel Rittenhouse, a luxury residential tower under construction at 1911 Walnut Street just to the north of Rittenhouse Square Park in Rittenhouse Square, Center City. Designed by Solomon Cordwell Buenz and developed by the Southern Land Company, with the Harman Group as the structural engineer and the Hunter Roberts Construction Group as the contractor, the skyscraper rises to an impressive height of 599 feet and 48 stories (with two additional mechanical floors). The building will house 185 rental units along with 60 condominiums.

Permits Issued for Dilworth House at 223 South 6th Street in Society Hill, Center City

Permits have been issued for Dilworth House, an 11-story development set to stand at 223 South 6th Street in Society Hill, Center City. Designed by Cope Linder Architects, the new building will offer 10 residential units, all ultra-luxury condominiums. The project will contain 56,634 square feet of interior space and include 20 valet-served parking spades situated underground, set to be accessed from Randolph Street. Construction costs are estimated at $7.5 million as per the permit.

Excavation Nearly Complete at 1620 Sansom Street in Rittenhouse Square, Center City

The excavation work is heavily underway and nearly complete at 1620 Sansom Street in Rittenhouse Square, Center City, three blocks to the south of Liberty Place. The building will stand 340 feet and 28 stories above ground. The tower is designed by Solomon Cordwell Buenz and developed by the Southern Land Company, with the Hunter Roberts Construction Group, a trio that has also collaborated on the The Laurel Rittenhouse under construction nearby. The building will hold a total of 306 residential units, along with commercial space on the ground floor.

Permits have been issued for 12 + Sansom, a high-rise planned at 123-27 South 12th Street in Market East, Center City. Designed by Studios Architecture, the tower will rise 20 stories tall and will offer 399 residential units, some with balconies. A roof deck will be included with the development. In total, the tower will hold 370,860 square feet of space. Clemens Construction is the contractor behind the project. Construction costs are estimated at $132.25 million.

Philadelphia YIMBY Observes Views from the Top of The Laurel Rittenhouse in Rittenhouse Square, Center City

Nearly a month ago, The Laurel Rittenhouse at 1911 Walnut Street in Rittenhouse Square, Center City, celebrated its topping out with a commemorative event. Designed by Solomon Cornwell Buenz and developed by Southern Land Company, with the Harman Group as the structural engineer, the tower rises 48 stories tall and 599 feet, with additional two floors of mechanical space The parapet that will soon be constructed will reach 593 feet. The building will house 185 rental apartments and 60 luxury condominium units in the upper portion. Today, Philadelphia YIMBY shares skyline photos taken during our tour of the skyscraper as seen from the 48th and 49th floors, just under the final concrete slab.
