A Look at an Unbuilt 50-Story Tower Once Proposed at 1739 Vine Street in Franklintown

Nearly 20 years ago, a 890-foot-tall, 50-story skyscraper was proposed at 1739 Vine Street in Franklintown, North Philadelphia (or, by an alternate definition, in Logan Square, Center City). Located just to the north of Vine Street, at the intersection with North 17th Street, the tower would have dominated the northern edge of the skyline core. Designed by Hillier Architecture, the project featured a major setback on the north side and a taller, curved section at the south side, with a spire extending above the main structure. Renderings show a façade of light turquoise glass with white metal highlights.

Permits have been issued for the construction of two mixed-use structures at 135 West Girard Avenue and 143 West Girard Avenue in Olde Kensington. Both buildings will stand seven floors tall and will feature complementary designs. Each structure will include a roof deck, commercial space at the ground floor, and a parking garage in the basement. 143 West Girard Avenue will span 25,079 square feet, hold a total of 20 residential units, and cost $3,795,236 to build. 135 West Girard Avenue will contain 37,028 square feet of space, cost an estimated $5,473,541 to build, and feature 40 residential units.

Permits Issued for a 21-Unit Development at 1609 Poplar Street in Francisville, North Philadelphia

Permits have been issued for the construction of a multi-family structure at 1609 Poplar Street in Francisville, North Philadelphia. The development will stand four stories tall and hold 21 apartments upon completion, as well as a roof deck, a green roof, and 21 parking spaces. The building will hold 32,268 square feet and cost an estimated $4.25 million to build.

Construction is progressing at a three-story mixed-use building at 1208 North 29th Street in Brewerytown, North Philadelphia. The building will offer a ground floor retail space and six residential units. CANNOdesign is the architect and Grit Construction is the contractor. Mountain Rock LLC is the listed owner.

Permits have been issued for the construction of a large residential project at 1306-14 Callowhill Street in Callowhill, North Philadelphia. The development will stand seven floors tall and hold 181 residential units upon completion. All of the units will be apartments available for rent. A retail space measuring 3,208 square feet will be located on the ground floor of the structure. Additionally, 51 parking spaces will be included in the development. The 184,679-square-foot structure was designed by Bernardon and will cost an expected $18 million to build.
