Floor plans have been recently revealed for Ultra Labs University City at 125 North 32nd Street in University City, West Philadelphia. Developed by the Republic Properties and Scheer Partners, the structure will rise 190 feet and 19 stories tall and will contain 185,279 square feet of interior space. The mixed-use building will combine laboratory and office space, joining the many lab buildings located throughout University City.

The Pavilion at Penn Medicine at 300 South 33rd Street in University City is a massive, and welcome, addition to West Philadelphia. Designed by Foster + Partners, the structure rises 343 feet and 17 stories tall, and holds 1.5 million square feet of interior space. Today we look at the construction process of the nearly completed building that dominates the surrounding area with its scale.

The CHOP Hub for Clinical Collaboration at 3501 Civic Center Boulevard is starting to look like the projected renderings as facade work is making steady progress. Located in in University City, West Philadelphia, the massive structure is the first phase of the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s expansion plan and is being built at a cost of $4 billion. Designed by Perkins+Will, the structure now stands at its final height of 377 feet and 19 stories.

Permits Issued for Four-Unit Building at 4251 Sansom Street in Spruce Hill, West Philadelphia

Permits have been issued for the construction of a three-story, four-unit multi-family building at 4251 Sansom Street in Spruce Hill, West Philadelphia. The structure will replace an ornate two-story prewar rowhouse located on the north side of the block between South 42nd and South 43rd streets. The new building will rise from a 1,780-square-foot footprint, will contain 5,613 square feet of interior space, translating to a spacious 1,403 square feet per apartment, and will feature full sprinkling. Permits list Charnelle Hicks as the owner, Kevin Korejko as the design professional, and Northeast Builders LLC as the contractor.

Facade Nearly Complete at Drexel College of Nursing and Health Professions in University City, West Philadelphia

The Drexel College of Nursing and Health Professions is shaping up to look like its renderings as the exterior approaches completion. The building, which is also known as the Wexford Drexel Academic Tower, is located at 3601 Filbert Street in University City, West Philadelphia. Designed by Ballinger and developed by Wexford Science & Technology LLC, the structure rises to a height of 12 stories and 185 feet. The remainder of the facade with brown glazed glass and metal highlights will be installed in the near future.

Renderings Revealed for 4240 Chestnut Street in Spruce Hill, West Philadelphia

Renderings have been revealed for a 128-unit mixed-use building at 4240 Chestnut Street in Spruce Hill, West Philadelphia. Designed by DAS Architects, the building will rise seven stories tall. In total, the structure will hold 148,007 square feet of space. Office space, which will occupy 35,896 square feet, will be home to Intercultural Family Services, a non-profit community organization. The remainder of the building will consist of apartments ranging from studios to one- and two-bedrooms, spanning from 420 to 930 square feet. The building will include a green roof and a roof deck, as well as an underground garage that will hold 40 parking spaces. A fitness room and a study lounge will also be offered for building residents.

Foundation work is underway for first tower of the 14-acre Schuylkill Yards megadevelopment, located at 3025 John F. Kennedy Boulevard in University City, West Philadelphia. Designed by the Practice for Architecture and Urbanism and developed by Brandywine Realty Trust, the building will rise at a total height of 361 feet and 28 stories. The skyscraper is also known as Schuylkill Yards West for its placement compared to the proposed skyscraper to the east at 3001 John F. Kennedy Boulevard.

Permits Issued for 45-Unit Building at 5200 Chester Avenue in Kingsessing, West Philadelphia

Permits have been issued for the construction of a four-story, 45-unit multi-family building at 5200 Chester Avenue in Kingsessing, West Philadelphia. Upon completion, the building will rise four stories tall and will feature a roof deck equipped with a green roof. The building will hold 57,380 square feet of space and cost an estimated $6.11 million to build. Tester Construction is listed as the project’s contractor, with Rich Villa as the design professional.

One uCity Square Rises Rapidly in University City, West Philadelphia

The uCity Square development in University City, West Philadelphia, is coming along at a rapid pace. The main tower, One uCity Square at 3401 Market Street, is well underway to join the recently topped-out Drexel building, with structural steel continuing to rise. Designed by ZGF Architects, the 250-foot-tall, 13-story building will feature a blocky, Jenga-like massing with shifting, glass-clad sections. The uCity Square complex, developed by Ventas Inc., will span 14 acres and will feature four more buildings to the west, with some rising taller than One uCity Square.

Permits Issued for Renovation and Vertical Extension at 4309 Westminster Avenue in Belmont, West Philadelphia

Permits have been issued for the renovation and a single-story vertical extension for a three-story rowhouse at 4309 Westminster Avenue in Belmont, West Philadelphia. The building, situated on the north side of the block between North 43rd Street and Belmont Avenue, is part of a block-long ensemble of prewar rowhouses. The project will cover 3,080 square feet of existing interior space and add 767 square feet of new construction, and will feature three residential units as well as an accessible green roof. Permits list Horace Andrews as the owner, Christopher Menna as the design professional, and Terox Electric & Construction Corp. as the contractor. Construction costs are listed at $50,000.
