Construction work is making rapid progress on The Block at SoNo (also known as SoNo and SoNo Apartments), a 49-unit mixed-use development located at 456 North 5th Street in Northern Liberties. Designed by ISA Architects, the building stands four stories tall, with three commercial spaces on the ground floor, of which one will face North 5th Street, while the other two will open onto the parking lot at the building’s rear. The upper floors will hold residential units.

Permits have been issued for the construction of a four-story, seven-unit multi-family building at 4021 Haverford Avenue in Haverford North, West Philadelphia. The development will replace a three-story rowhouse located on the north side of the block between North 40th Street and North Preston Street. The new building will span a ground footprint of 2,413 square feet and will offer 10,134 square feet of interior space, which translates into generously-sized apartments measuring well over 1,000 square feet each. The structure will also feature a basement and full sprinkling. Permits list Mustafa Sencan as the owner and American Reliable Tasks Contracting as the contractor. Construction costs are specified at $1,257,000.

Excavation Starts at Cathedral Place Phase 1 at 222 North 17th Street in Logan Square, Center City

Excavation is underway at the Cathedral Place Phase 1 tower, located at 222 North 17th Street in Logan Square, Center City. The 245-foot-tall, 23-story residential structure will be one of two high-rises that will be built as part of the Cathedral Place redevelopment of the Archdiocesan campus adjacent to the Cathedral Basilica of St. Peter and Paul, which was built between 1846 to 1864. Designed by Solomon Cordwell Buenz and developed by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and Exeter Property Group, the building will have a sleek design that will be prominently visible from the iconic Philadelphia Museum of Art viewpoint, with blue glass standing out among the surrounding masonry and concrete towers. The structure is expected to stat rising this year.
