Cathedral Place Phase 2 At 1700 Vine Street Planned To Rise 685 Feet And Bulk Up The Logan Square Skyline

The Philadelphia skyline continues to expand its boundaries, and a new proposal on the northern fringe of the skyline will be a major game changer. Today, YIMBY explores the most recent information on Exeter Property Group’s Cathedral Place Phase 2 at 1700 Vine Street, a high-rise that would stand directly north of the iconic Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul in Logan Square. Massing renderings released by architecture firm Solomon Cordwell Buenz show a bulky, 685-foot-tall tower containing a prodigious amount of office space, as well as ground floor retail and dining. The massing diagram was released earlier this year alongside the unveiling of Cathedral Place Phase 1, which is currently further along in its design.

The area around western Vine Street has been experiencing a generational wave of new construction. RAMSA’s 382-foot Alexander at 1601 Vine Street wrapped in 2018, the ten-story 2100 Hamilton Street will soon rise nearby, and last year, long after the initial announcement for the two-towered Cathedral Place project, architecture firm Solomon Cordwell Buenz finally released renderings for Cathedral Place Phase 1, a 245-foot, 23-story high-rise at 222 North 17th Street, which would stand behind the iconic, domed Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul in Logan Square.

For many years now, a Starbucks has occupied a three story building at 337 South Broad Street in Washington Square West. Over the past few years, designs have been revealed to replace the three story building with a 28-story 361-foot tower developed by Dranoff Properties. With Broad Street gaining more attention with development, it will continue the ascent of skyscrapers in Center City and Broad Street as Symphony House did when completed in 2009.
