Tower Cranes Erected for Drexel’s uCity Square Tower in University City, West Philadelphia

Construction is progressing on the Drexel College of Nursing and Health Professions Tower in University City, West Philadelphia, where two tower cranes were recently assembled. Designed by Ballinger and developed by Wexford Science & Technology LLC, the 12-story building will stand 185 feet tall and yield some 600,000 square feet, greatly bolstering Drexel’s portfolio and adding density to the skyline of the growing neighborhood.

Framing in Progress at 3700 Lancaster Avenue in University City, West Philadelphia

Construction has been progressing rapidly at 3700 Lancaster Avenue, a massive six-story apartment building in the uCity Square megaproject in University City, West Philadelphia. The 304,907-square-foot project will add 463 new residential units and 157 parking spaces units to the neighborhood. YIMBY first shared the project in September, when foundation work had been completed and framing had begun on the first floor.

530-Foot-Tall Tower Awaits Construction at 3001 John F. Kennedy Boulevard in University City, West Philadelphia

The seventh-tallest building on Philly YIMBY’s December 2020 Development Countdown is the 34-story skyscraper proposed at 3001 John F. Kennedy Boulevard in University City, West Philadelphia. Designed by the Practice for Architecture and Urbanism and developed by Brandywine Realty Trust, the bulky office building will feature an eye-catching staggered massing and an exterior of red aluminum cladding. The building, which will rise approximately 530 feet tall to the top of the parapet, is the first 500-foot-plus tower in the Countdown, the tallest proposal so far in the 14-acre Schuylkill Yards development, and will be the second-tallest building in West Philadelphia upon completion. Philly YIMBY’s recent site visit has revealed no construction progress so far at the parking lot that spans the site.

The 11th-tallest building on Philly YIMBY’s December 2020 Development Countdown is the 377-foot-tall, 19-story CHOP Hub for Clinical Collaboration at 3501 Civic Center Boulevard in University City, West Philadelphia. Designed by Perkins+Will, the building will add 550,000 square feet to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia campus, significantly expanding its medical space. Our recent site visit revealed that the concrete core currently stands 13 stories high, around two-thirds of its final height, with the steel frame in progress on the lower floors.
