The steel frame has risen two levels high at a seven-story, 18-unit mixed-use building under construction at 222 North 11th Street in Chinatown, Center City. The development is situated on the west side of the block between Race and Vine streets, half a block north of the Convention Center (thus situating the project within the Convention Center District). Permits list Liu Construction Inc. as the contractor.

Construction has been moving at a rapid pace on the skyscraper rising at 1101 Chestnut Street in Market East, Center City. The building, also known as the Thomas Jefferson Specialty Care Pavilion, is the latest addition to the expanding Jefferson Health campus in this section of the city. Designed by Ennead Architects and Stantec and developed by National Real Estate Development, the building currently stands at roughly the halfway point of its full height of 372 feet and 23 stories. The building is a part of East Market Phase 3, the latest expansion of the East Market complex.

295-Foot-Tall Office Building Tops Out at 2222 Market Street in Center City West

The latest office building to be constructed in Center City since the Comcast Technology Center was completed in 2019 is the one currently rising at 2222 Market Street, located within the rapidly growing Center City West neighborhood. Designed by Gensler and developed by Parkway Commercial Properties, the building has recently topped out and now stands at its full height of 295 feet and 19 stories. The development will hold law office space, with the law firm Morgan, Lewis, Bockius LLP planning to occupy at least part of the structure. The tower is the second high-rise project to go up in the area in recent years, following the topping-out of the two Riverwalk buildings.

A Detailed Look at the 27-Story Tower Planned at 300 North Christopher Columbus Boulevard in Northern Liberties

After years of dormancy and inaction, numerous developments along the Delaware River waterfront are finally having their permits issued, which puts them on direct track toward construction. One of the most exciting among these is the project planned at 300 North Christopher Columbus Boulevard in Northern Liberties. Designed by Handel Architects and developed by The Durst Organization, the project will feature a 27-story, 360-unit tower rising next to a brand new public space. A construction permit was issued for the project in November of last year, and another, more comprehensive one, was issued in August of this year. Earlier this month, a YIMBY site visit observed a large amount of recently-placed material and equipment at the site, although it is not certain whether it is intended for the building’s construction. Today we take a closer look at the building’s design its future contribution both to the neighborhood and to the skyline at large.

Permits Issued for Three-Story Vertical Extension at 223-25 Market Street in Old City

Permits have been issued for a multi-family addition above an existing building at 223-25 Market Street in Old City. Currently, the building stands three stories tall. Designed by the Atrium Design Group, the addition will upgrade the height up to six stories ant the interior area to 23,685 square feet. A commercial space will be added to the ground floor, while the upper floors will hold 22 residential units. A roof deck will be made accessible via a pilot house. Construction costs are estimated at $3.5 million.

Permits Issued for 29-Story, 341-Unit Tower at 33 North 22nd Street in Center City West

Permits have been issued for a high-rise tower at 33 North 22nd Street in Center City West. Designed by Solomon Cordwell Buenz and developed by the PMC Property Group, the building will rise 328 feet and 29 stories tall and feature 341 residential units. A parking garage will be included within the structure, which will add to its sizable height. In total, the development will yield 456,380 square feet of space. Construction costs are estimated at $136,000,000.

Philadelphia YIMBY Reveals Skyline Massings of Two Cathedral Square at 227 North 18th Street in Logan Square, Center City

YIMBY recently published the long-awaited reveal of the plans for Two Cathedral Square at 227 North 18th Street in Logan Square, Center City. The new building that will join the north side of the Philadelphia skyline as part of the Cathedral Square development. Developed by EQT Exeter and the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, the tower will soon rise to a height of 470 feet and will feature a curvy, angled parapet, standing 34 stories above ground. The building was designed by Solomon Cordwell Buenz, which has also designed Philadelphia buildings such as The Murano, The Laurel Rittenhouse, and 33 North 22nd Street. Permits Issued for 61-Unit Mixed-Use Building at 36-38 South 2nd Street in Old City

Permits have been issued for the construction of a seven-story mixed-use development at 36-39 South 2nd Street in the Old City section of Center City. Designed by CANNOdesign, the structure will hold 51,623 square feet of interior space and will offer 61 residential units as well as commercial space on the ground floor. A roof deck will be situated at the top. Tester Construction is the general contractor. Construction costs are estimated at $10.5 million.

Designed by Solomon Cordwell Buenz and developed by EQT Exeter, with Studio Bryan Hanes handling landscape design, the 700,000-square-foot-plus building is the largest component of Cathedral Square, a redevelopment master plan for the block-sized archdiocesan campus centered on the iconic Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul. Philadelphia YIMBY Observes Multiple New Lighting Schemes at One Liberty Place in Center City

In recent weeks, new nighttime displays have been lighting up the Philadelphia skyline. The iconic One Liberty Place skyscraper, located at 1650 Market Street in Center City, is the site of one of these new schemes, where new lights now decorate the crown. Developed by Rouse and Associates and designed by Helmut Jahn of Murphy/Jahn, the 61-story tower was completed in 1987 and stands 945 feet tall to the tip of its spire. Today Philadelphia YIMBY observes the most recent displays atop the skyscraper, after The Lighting Practice has finished revamping the decorative lighting.
