Permits have been filed for the demolition of a vacant two-story structure at 5509 Spruce Street in Cobbs Creek, West Philadelphia. The 1,200-square-foot, prewar structure is located at a mid-block site between South 55th Street and South Allison Street. The former single-family dwelling and will be dismantled as part of the City of Philadelphia Demolition Program. The cost of the work will be $14,000. Pendarvis Mathis is the listed owner and Thomas Curran is the contractor.

Exterior Work Wraps on Pavilion at 300 South 33rd Street in University City, West Philadelphia

After three years of construction, Pavilion, a steel behemoth in the hospital district of University City in West Philadelphia, nears completion. Located at 300 South 33rd Street, the building was designed by Foster + Partners at a height of 343 feet and 17 stories with a total square footage of 1.5 million square feet, the same amount as the Comcast Technology Center (also designed by Foster + Partners). The structure will roughly double the number of hospital beds at Penn Medicine. The Pavilion rises from the former site of the 254-foot-tall, 20-story Penn Tower, completed in 1974, demolished to make room for this massive development.

CHOP Hub For Clinical Collaboration Arrives on the Skyline in University City, West Philadelphia

The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia is adding yet another building to a high-rise medical services cluster taking over the southern part of University City. The CHOP Hub For Clinical Collaboration is a 377-foot-tall, 19-story building located at 3501 Civic Center Boulevard, designed by Perkins+Will, which will add 560 beds to the hospital. While the tower’s height will significantly alter the part of the skyline located in an area limited to under 400 feet, the more than 550,000 square feet of floor space will make a big impact on the area and the city.

Design Updates Released for 90-Unit Project at 3314 Fairmount Avenue in Mantua, West Philadelphia

Earlier this year, KCA Design Associates submitted a Civic Design Review document to the Philadelphia Planning Commission for a six-story, 90-unit residential building proposed at 3314 Fairmount Avenue in Mantua, West Philadelphia. The project, developed by DTEG Investments, LLC, will span a L-shaped through-block site between Melon Street and Fairmount Avenue and span 82,776 gross square feet, including 5,200 square feet of industrial space. A revised CDR document was released on On October 9th, showing changes to the design.
