Top 10 Tallest Buildings Under Construction in Philadelphia in 2022

Given the number of new permits issued last year, Philadelphia appears on track for a record volume of construction this year. The majority of such construction is of the low- and mid-rise variety. Of course, there are also marquee developments that will boost the city’s iconic skyline. Today Philly YIMBY looks at the ten tallest buildings under construction in the city as of 2022. Among these, seven are underway in Center City and three more are rising in University City in West Philadelphia. We look forward to seeing further progress on these developments throughout the course of the year.

First Level Erected at 3025 John F. Kennedy Boulevard in University City, West Philadelphia

The first Schuylkill Yards skyscraper now officially rises above ground at 3025 John F. Kennedy Boulevard in University City. The tower, also known as Schuylkill Yards West, is sited just to the northwest of Drexel Square. Designed by the Practice for Architecture and Urbanism and developed by Brandywine Realty Trust, the high-rise will eventually reach 361 feet and 28 stories in height, and will consist of 326 residential units and lab space. The structure is a part of the 14-acre mega-project that will change the West Philadelphia skyline, and is the latest phase in the project’s construction since the renovation of the Bulletin Building.

Permits Issued for 21-Unit Building at 2000 North Front Street in Fishtown, Kensington

Permits have been issued for the construction of a five-story, 21-unit mixed-use building at 2000 North Front Street in Fishtown, Kensington. The structure will rise at the northwest corner of Front and Norris streets, replacing a dilapidated and boarded-up three-story prewar building. The development will offer 22,992 square feet of interior space, which will include a commercial component. Features include full sprinkling and a roof deck, which will likely offer sweeping skyline views due to the structure’s relative prominence. Permits list Dr. Jerry Ginsberg as the owner, KCA Design Associates as the architect, and Tota Builders, Inc. [sic] as the contractor. Construction costs are specified at $710,000.
