Construction Begins On 51 Washington Street In Conshohocken

Conshohocken, a quaint town located roughly 11 miles away from Center City, sits within Montgomery county on the left bank of the Schuylkill River. The town has recently seen a large amount of new development, having grown into a strong suburban (in the better sense of the word) force that has helped the Philadelphia metro area blossom. Its latest new development, the 304-unit residential complex at 51 Washington Street, is now under construction.

Surface Lot To Be Developed to Condo-Hotel Resort in Ocean City, New Jersey

Ocean City, New Jersey sits 50 miles southwest of Philadelphia, but the beachfront city falls well within the extended Philadelphia area, and its development affects the greater metropolis. Here, the large surface lot at 1101 Ocean Avenue, adjacent to the Flanders Hotel, is set to be developed into a six-story, 111-unit condo resort. The project, dubbed The Soleil Resort, will sit less than a block off of the boardwalk and the beach. The project will feature a cafe/restaurant and a shop for sundries and will include nearly 400 parking spaces in a covered garage.

A permit has been issued for the construction of a four-story structure at 6552 Germantown Avenue in Mount Airy. The building will consist of 10 residential units. It will have easy access to the Chestnut Hill West regional rail line and fronts the busy and frequent 23 bus route. The current site houses a once-attractive row of three homes with vacant retail spaces on the first floor. Those structures are now crumbling and are are possibly no longer salvageable.

Philadelphia-based JKRP Architects have recently submitted a Civic Design Review presentation that illustrates the proposed mixed-use complex at 700-730 Delaware Avenue in the Northern Liberties neighborhood in North Philadelphia, near the Delaware River waterfront. The complex consists of two seven-story buildings, 700-730 Delaware Avenue and 711-735 Front Street, containing retail and parking on the lower floors, with residences above.

Documents state that the owner of the property is Juan A Ortiz and that it will be a residential structure.

Curvy Tower Proposed at 2301 John F. Kennedy Boulevard, Center City West

In 1889, a major project in Center City changed the way commuters had traveled all over the city. The project, Broad Street Station, included a large viaduct above the city streets with eight tracks and a shed leading to the street just to the west of City Hall. Since the project was demolished by 1953, the former site of the so-called “Chinese Wall” lead to many new developments that boosted the skyline, such as the Mellon Bank Center. Now, 2301 John F. Kennedy Boulevard, a new office and residential tower planned to rise to 303 feet, will sit on one of the last available parcels at the former Chinese Wall.
