Top 10 Tallest Buildings Under Construction in Philadelphia in 2022

Given the number of new permits issued last year, Philadelphia appears on track for a record volume of construction this year. The majority of such construction is of the low- and mid-rise variety. Of course, there are also marquee developments that will boost the city’s iconic skyline. Today Philly YIMBY looks at the ten tallest buildings under construction in the city as of 2022. Among these, seven are underway in Center City and three more are rising in University City in West Philadelphia. We look forward to seeing further progress on these developments throughout the course of the year.

Permits Issued for 21-Unit Building at 2000 North Front Street in Fishtown, Kensington

Permits have been issued for the construction of a five-story, 21-unit mixed-use building at 2000 North Front Street in Fishtown, Kensington. The structure will rise at the northwest corner of Front and Norris streets, replacing a dilapidated and boarded-up three-story prewar building. The development will offer 22,992 square feet of interior space, which will include a commercial component. Features include full sprinkling and a roof deck, which will likely offer sweeping skyline views due to the structure’s relative prominence. Permits list Dr. Jerry Ginsberg as the owner, KCA Design Associates as the architect, and Tota Builders, Inc. [sic] as the contractor. Construction costs are specified at $710,000.

Permits Issued for 43-Unit Building at 912-22 Locust Avenue in East Germantown, Northwest Philadelphia

Permits have been issued for the construction of a three-story, 43-unit mixed-use building at 912-22 Locust Avenue in East Germantown, Northwest Philadelphia, just north of LaSalle University. The structure will stand on a 21,272-square-foot lot on the southeast side of the block between Boyer and Devon streets, rising from a 10,800-square-foot footprint and holding 32,235 square feet of interior space. The development will include two commercial spaces, a cellar, and accessory storage space (to which the permits allocate a whopping 10,745 square feet). Permits list Bobby and Joyce M. Permits have been issued for the construction of a five-story, ten-unit apartment building at 721-23 North 16th Street in Fairmount, Lower North Philadelphia. The development will be situated on the east side of the block between Swain and Brown streets, in an area that may also be described as Francisville. The project will replace a pair of three-story, apparently well-maintained prewar rowhouses and will hold a total of 11,048 square feet of interior space, which translates to a sizable average of 1,100 square feet per unit. The building will feature full sprinkling, a cellar, and a roof deck, which, due to the building’s prominent height, promises to offer sweeping skyline views. Permits have been issued for the construction of a six-story, 36-unit apartment building at 3811 Main Street in Wissahickon, Northwest Philadelphia. The development will rise on the northeast side of the street, across from the Schuylkill River. The structure will span a 28,174-square-foot footprint and will offer 69,876 square feet and will include five commercial spaces and full sprinkling.
