Construction Anticipated for 327-Foot-Tall Residential Tower at 709 Chestnut Street in Market East, Center City

In 2015, the Mack-Cali Realty Corp. and Parkway Commercial Properties jointly proposed a high-rise apartment building at 709 Chestnut Street in Old City, a block west of Independence Hall. Two years later, Mack-Cali has left the development team and the building design has since changed. The latest iteration, designed by Edry McHenry Architects, is proposed to stand 327 feet and 27 stories tall, sporting 278 residential units. As of today, the proposal site consists of a still-active parking lot.

Mural West Tower Set to Rise at 523 North Broad Street in Callowhill, North Philadelphia

Construction has yet to break ground on Mural West, a 363-foot-tall mixed-use building at 523 North Broad Street on the border of the Poplar and Callowhill neighborhoods of North Philadelphia. Designed by Atkin Olshin Schade Architects and developed by Eric Blumenfeld, the 32-story building will add some verticality to the area around North Broad Street north of the Vine Street Expressway, which has seen minimal skyline development since the dome-topped Inquirer Building was completed in 1924. The project will include a mix of retail space, offices, and residential area.

Permits Filed For 807 North 40th Street In Mantua, West Philadelphia

Permits have been issued for 897 North 40th Street in the Mantua neighborhood of West Philadelphia. The proposal calls for a three-story, six-unit, sprinkled residential structure to rise at the site of an existing grass lot. The planned roof deck will offer sweeping views of the Philadelphia skyline. The permit also makes provisions for a covered walkway or sidewalk closure for the duration of the construction.
