Permits have been filed for the demolition of a two-story, 1,200-square-foot rowhouse at 1522 South Taylor Street in Point Breeze, South Philadelphia. The vacant single-family dwelling, clad in brown brick and located on a mid-block site between Tasker Street and Dickinson Street, has stood abandoned for around ten years. The property, owned by Welcome Fredrick, will be demolished as part of the City of Philadelphia Demolition Program. Thomas Curran is the contractor. the cost of work is listed at $11,300.

The Laurel Rittenhouse Square Continues Ascent in Rittenhouse Square, Center City

Philadelphia’s tallest currently under-construction building continues to rise at 1911 Walnut Street, where the Southern Land Company is erecting The Laurel Rittenhouse Square, a 599-foot-tall tower that will dramatically transform the neighborhood skyline. The 48-story tower, designed by Solomon Cordwell Buenz, will add 185 rental apartments and 60 condo units. Since the last YIMBY update in early August, the skyscraper has only climbed only three levels, now reaching six stories, but progress should move faster now that the structurally challenging portion at the cantilever is nearing completion.

Large Residential Project Planned for 800-808 Callowhill Street in Callowhill, North Philadelphia

Permits have been filed for the construction of nine adjacent multi-family structures at 800-808 Callowhill Street in Callowhill, North Philadelphia. The site sits between North 8th Street and North 9th Street in a predominantly industrial area. The project will consist of nine four-story structures with a total of 40 residential units. Riverwalk North Tower Tops Out as South Tower Continues Ascent in Center City West

In Center City West, the two-tower Riverwalk development next to the Schuylkill River is steadily progressing with the 315-foot-tall, 28-story north tower topped out, and the core of the south tower rising around a quarter of its future 362-foot, 32-story height. The nearly identical towers, developed by PMC Properties and designed by Gensler, the development will bring a total of 711 residential units, with 331 residential units in the north tower and 380 units in the south tower. The pair will bring a total of over 100,000 square feet of floor space in a rapidly growing section of Center City.

Wawa Rolling Out New Drive-Thru Locations

Wawa, a major convenience store/gas station chain based outside of Media, a town in Greater Philadelphia’s western outskirts, is set to now offer new drive-thru locations. The recent changes in consumer interaction have led to a renaissance of limited-contact locations, pickups, and deliveries. Wawa has already introduced in-car and in store pickups, and addition of drive-thru is the next step for the company’s redevelopment strategy. Two locations, both located in the Philadelphia suburbs, will be the first to receive the amenity. One will be a drive-thru-only facility located adjacent to an existing store in the Morrisville section of Falls Township. Another will be added to an existing store in Westhampton, New Jersey.

567-Foot-Tall Skyscraper Revealed at 113-121 South 19th Street in Rittenhouse Square, Center City

The Rittenhouse Square area is poised for dramatic skyline changes in the coming years, where the 599-foot-tall Laurel is the city’s tallest under-construction building. Yesterday, a Civic Design Review document revealed Pearl Properties’ plan for a 567-foot-tall tower at 113-121 South 19th Street. The svelte, 567-foot-tall, 49-story, 267,874-square-foot skyscraper will incorporate existing historic buildings into the base and will include 30,180 square feet of commercial space at the lower floors and 183 residential units above. DAS Architecture and Planning is the project architect.
