CHOP’s Roberts Center for Pediatric Research Phase 3 to Rise 350 Feet in Graduate Hospital, South Philadelphia

The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia is in the process of a $3.4 billion expansion in West and South Philadelphia. The latest proposed structure is the Roberts Center for Pediatric Research Phase 3, a 350-foot-tall tower planned at 730 Schuylkill Avenue in the western section of South Philadelphia’s Graduate Hospital neighborhood, which is also known as Schuylkill Grays Ferry and Devil’s Pocket. The new structure will stand as a fraternal twin to the first phase of Roberts Center, a 375-foot-tall building completed in 2017. Project information remains sparse, but the design will likely be led by the office of Pelli Clarke Pelli, which designed the first phase.

Cathedral Place Phase 2 At 1700 Vine Street Planned To Rise 685 Feet And Bulk Up The Logan Square Skyline

The Philadelphia skyline continues to expand its boundaries, and a new proposal on the northern fringe of the skyline will be a major game changer. Today, YIMBY explores the most recent information on Exeter Property Group’s Cathedral Place Phase 2 at 1700 Vine Street, a high-rise that would stand directly north of the iconic Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul in Logan Square. Massing renderings released by architecture firm Solomon Cordwell Buenz show a bulky, 685-foot-tall tower containing a prodigious amount of office space, as well as ground floor retail and dining. The massing diagram was released earlier this year alongside the unveiling of Cathedral Place Phase 1, which is currently further along in its design.

Permits Filed For 314 South 46th Street in Garden Court, West Philadelphia

Permits have been issued for partial demolition, renovation and expansion at 314 South 46th Street, located in the Garden Court neighborhood of West Philadelphia. The site is currently home to the Good Shepherd Community Church, a Romanesque-inspired structure with a rusticated stone exterior, large arched windows, a gabled roof, and a cozy courtyard. The permit calls for the complete renovation of the two-story church, although the entrance area will be demolished. A four-story addition with a cellar will be erected alongside the church, which will also receive a third floor expansion. The project will produce 25 new apartments.
