12-Story Residential Tower Proposed at 223 South Sixth Street in Society Hill, Old City

In recent years we saw a number of game-changing high-rise projects growing around the city, with many more in planning. rise in the past decade with many buildings soaring to new heights. But in Society Hill, the developer team of John and Mary Turchi have fought for 14 years to erect a 150-foot building at 223 South Sixth Street. The 12-story, 193,589-square-foot structure, which is proposed to sit right next to the Dilworth House while preserving most of the older building, won approval from the Historical Commission just last year. Cope-Linder Architects is the designer for the slender high-rise, which will hold just ten residential units.

Equal Justice Center Towers Set to Rise at 800 and 830 Vine Street in Chinatown, Center City

While many areas of Center City, notably Center City West, are budding with development, Chinatown still has a surprisingly high number of underdeveloped lots. A two-building proposal is slated for one such site at 800 Vine Street and 830 Vine Street. The Equal Justice Center Towers, developed by Pennrose Management Company and designed by Robert’s & Todd Design, will span a 3.2-acre lot and consist of a nine-story office building and a mixed-use 13-story structure with 132 market rate units, 53 affordable senior units, and 150 hotel rooms. A large public plaza will sit at the corner and run between the two buildings at a diagonal angle.

Two uCity Square, a 15-story office building that is part of the greater uCity Square development, is slated to rise at 225 North 38th Street in University City in West Philadelphia. Permits have already been filed for the construction of the foundation, the core, and the tower shell. The 498,023-square-foot high-rise will contain office, research and development, and retail space, as well as three loading bays, 329 parking spaces, and 91 bicycle spaces. Most of these amenities will be located underground. A green roof will be built atop the structure.
